Windows 7 Media Center is a great way to enjoy your media content. However, if you’re using it for professional or personal use, you may want to optimize it for better performance. Here are some tips to help improve your Windows 7 Media Center experience:

  1. Use the Performance Options in the Control Panel to adjust how your computer behaves when playing media content. This can include things like reducing the number of background tasks that are run, optimizing video encoding settings, and adjusting the amount of memory used by Media Center.
  2. Make sure that all of your devices are connected to the network and that they’re running Windows 7 Update. This will install new updates and improve Media Center’s performance.
  3. If you have an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, make sure that it’s enabled in Windows 7 Update so that Media Center can use its power more efficiently. This will increase performance when playing media content and also help reduce stuttering or frame rate issues when streaming videos or photos from your device to Media Center.

Windows 7 Media Center Optimization

Optimization is an included feature that will organize your media files to work more fluidly with Media Center. It performs optimization tasks like re-indexing your media for faster retrieval of your media. It also restarts the Media Center services to clean up errors.

To access the Optimization feature, launch WMC and from the main menu navigate to Tasks then Settings.

From there choose General settings.

Now under the General settings select Optimization.

Check the box next to Perform Optimization, select a time for it to take place, and save your settings.

Note: You want to make sure you schedule it for a time when you’re not using it because you won’t be able to use WMC or any Extenders while the optimization process completes.

While you’re at it, you might want to schedule updates for Media Center as well.

If you’re a Windows 7 Media Center enthusiast and use it a lot, scheduling Optimization will help it access your media faster, improve stability, and improve overall performance.
