Synaptics touchpad icons are a common feature on many computers. They can be used to interact with the touchpad, and they can also be used to indicate that the touchpad is active. To remove a synaptics touchpad icon from the system tray, follow these steps:

  1. Open System Preferences and select the Touchpad tab.
  2. In the Touchpad section, select the Synaptics touchpad icon you want to remove from the system tray.
  3. Click Remove from System Tray.

The icon comes in two varieties that you’ve probably seen.

Just right-click the icon, and choose Pointing Device Properties from the menu.

On the Device Settings tab, you’ll find a Tray Icon section. Choose the Remove tray icon from taskbar radio button, and it’ll immediately be gone.

I realize this is very simple for most of you, but it’s good to cover everything that can save some memory.
