If you use Firefox as your web browser, then you’re likely familiar with the search helper extension. The search helper extension is a toolbar item that appears at the top of the Firefox window. It provides a variety of search capabilities, including finding websites and pages by name, URL, or keyword. The search helper extension can be a helpful tool if you need to quickly find information on a website or page. However, if you use the search helper extension on a regular basis, then it may be time to remove it from your Firefox browser. How to Remove the Search Helper Extension from Firefox To remove the search helper extension from Firefox, follow these steps:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox and click on the menu button (the three lines in the top left corner of Mozilla Firefox). This will open up a menu bar with several options. The options that are available depend on which version of Mozilla Firefox you are using. If you are using Mozilla SeaMonkey, then click on Tools > Extensions > Remove Add-ons > Search Helper Extension . If you are using Mozilla Thunderbird, then click on Tools > Extensions > Remove Add-ons > Search Helper Extension . If you are using Mozilla SeaMonkey and not Mozilla Thunderbird, then open up about:config and add “searchhelper” to the list of values. Then click on OK to close about:config. 2) Click on OK when prompted to close Firefox. 3) reopened Firefox and select File > New Window . 4) Type “chrome://extensions/searchhelper” into the new window’s title bar and press Enter . 5) In the resulting dialog box, select “No” when asked whether you want to keep the search helper extension installed or not. 6) Click on OK to close Chrome’s extensions manager and reopen Firefox again. 7) Select File > New Window again and type “chrome://extensions/searchhelper/” into the new window’s

An Unexpected Addition to Your Extensions

You may be wondering what the new mysterious extension that showed up is for. Its’ purpose is to help the Bing Toolbar better integrate with your browser. Unless you have the Bing Toolbar installed you really do not need this cluttering your browser up. So how do you get rid of it?

Removing the Extension

In order to remove the extension you will need to navigate to the following location:

Once there delete the “firefoxextension folder”…that is all there is to it. If you want to remove the search helper add-on for Internet Explorer then delete the “SEPsearchhelperie.dll file” while you are here.

Note: You may need to have administrator rights in order to delete the folder.

No more Search Helper Extension!
