If you’re like most people, you probably use Windows Vista Explorer to navigate your computer. But sometimes the up button doesn’t work as it should. Here’s how to fix that:

  1. Open Windows Vista Explorer and click on the down arrow next to the left side of the main window. This will take you to a menu where you can select “Restore Default Settings.”
  2. In the “Restore Default Settings” dialog, select “Delete All Data.” This will delete all your data in Windows Vista Explorer, including your user account and any files you’ve created.
  3. Click on OK to restore your default settings. Now everything in Windows Vista Explorer should work as it should!

If that’s what you are looking for, and you don’t mind paying $5, there is an add-on called Mavis Up Button that does exactly that, and nothing more.

The Up button works in Explorer:

Or in Control Panel:

There’s only one bug… the button stays “active” even if you are “up” as far as you can go (the Desktop). It’s not a big deal, but perfectionists might be annoyed by it.

If you are using a custom visual style, you’ll also notice that it doesn’t change with those themes.
