If you’re using IE 8 and Windows Live Hotmail, there’s a way to send text and links via the hotmail interface. To do this, you’ll need to create a new account on Windows Live Hotmail, and then open the “Hotmail” menu in the top left corner of the screen. From here, select “Text and Links.” Once you’ve selected this option, you’ll be able to create a new message by clicking on the “Create” button. In the “Message Body” field, you’ll need to provide a brief description of what you want to send. For example, if you want to send a link to an article on your website, you might enter “Link: http://www.example.com/article." Next, in the “Subject” field, enter something that will make it clear what the message is about. For example, if your message is just a text message, you might enter “Text Message.” If your message is an attachment (a file that can be opened with another program), you might enter “Attachment:.” In the “To” field, enter your email address (or other contact information). You can also include a subject line if desired. Finally, in the “From” field, type your message’s content into the text box below. You’ll now be able to send your message! To view or reply to it, just click on either of its icons in the inbox area of Windows Live Hotmail.
Note: This article is geared towards those who may not have used this accelerator before or declined to “add it” when setting up IE 8.
Send with Windows Live Hotmail in Action
There are two steps to add the accelerator to IE 8. First, click on Add to Internet Explorer and then confirm the installation when the secondary window appears.
To e-mail the link for a particular webpage right click somewhere within the webpage and select Send with Live Mail.
A new tab will be opened with a freshly pre-filled e-mail ready to go. All that you need to add is the recipient’s e-mail address (and any last minutes notes if desired).
If you are focusing on a group of text, highlight the desired area and select the Send with Live Mail listing from the context menu.
Note: Images will not transfer with the text if selected.
Do any last minute touch-ups that you desire, add the recipient’s e-mail address, and your e-mail is ready to go. Notice that the text selection option does not transfer the webpage’s URL over to the e-mail.
To work around the URL problem you could quickly add the webpage’s link before sending the e-mail out.
Having all of your notes and links gathered together and organized in one place will definitely help you be more productive.
Conclusion
If you need a quick way to send yourself or others notes and links throughout the day then the Send with Windows Live Hotmail accelerator is definitely worth considering.
