If you’re like most Ubuntu users, you probably have two desktop environments installed: GNOME Desktop Manager (GDM) and KDE Plasma Desktop Manager (KDM). But what if you want to switch between them? Here’s how to do it. First, open a terminal window and type the following command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm This will open the configuration utility for GDM. On the left side of the window, select “Session and Startup” and on the right side, select “Default Session.” In the “Session Name” field, type a name for your new session, such as “Kubuntu.” In the “Display Name” field, type your username. Click OK to close the window. Next, open a terminal window and type the following command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm This will open the configuration utility for KDM. On the left side of the window, select “Appearance” and on the right side, select “Configure Display.” In the “Session Name” field, type a name for your new session, such as “Kubuntu.” In the “Display Name” field, type your username. Click OK to close the window. Now that GDM and KDM are configured to use different sessions by default, you’ll need to tell Ubuntu which session should be used when starting up.
