Microsoft Download Center Beta is now available to download and test. This beta provides early access to new features and improvements in the upcoming release of Microsoft Download Center. The beta includes the following features:

  • Improved search capabilities that make it easier to find the files you need.
  • The ability to filter downloads by file size, type, or language.
  • The ability to add files to your queue for later download.
  • The ability to see which files have been downloaded and failed, so you can avoid downloading them again. To get started with the beta, visit the Microsoft Download Center website and sign in with your Microsoft account. If you don’t have a Microsoft account, you can create one free at microsoft.com/accounts/. ..

For the Beta Download Center you will need to install Microsoft Silverlight. After all of this it sure seemed to take far to long for the beta page to load.

Once everything was finally rendered I noticed the cosmetic changes to the center. Here is a shot of a menu box where it allows for easy navigation of the various downloads.

The main page has lists of popular and new downloads.

You will also get a description of each software item they have listed by hovering the mouse over the “quick launch” icon.

The new Download Resources menu.

Of course they had new flashy and fancy looking advertisements for new Microsoft products, but I will spare you those screen shots.
