Task Type at a Glance with Icon Column in Outlook 2007 To-Do Bar Task management is essential for any busy individual. Outlook 2007 provides a variety of task management features to help you stay organized. One of these features is the to-do bar. The to-do bar is located in the lower right corner of the window and displays your current tasks. You can access the to-do bar by clicking on the task list icon or by pressing Ctrl+T. The task type column in the to-do bar displays information about your current task, such as its title, due date, and priority level. The icon column shows which application or tool you need to use to complete the task. For example, if you have a document open in Word 2007, the icon will be a document pointer. If you have an email message open in Outlook 2007, the icon will be an email envelope. You can drag and drop tasks from the to-do bar into any other application on your computer or into your online account so that you can work on them offline later. You can also use Quick Access Lists (QALs) to group related tasks together so that they are easier to find when you are working on them. ..

This isn’t really a hack, it’s just a useful setting tweak that hadn’t occurred to me before, so I figured I’d write it up for everybody.

Now you can see at a glance that one of the items is from your task list, and the others are emails that were flagged for followup:

Adding the Icon Column to the To-Do List View

Just right-click on the column list and choose Custom…

Then click on the Fields button…

And then add the Icon column from the left side, and make sure you use the “Move Up” option to move it to the top of the list on the right-hand side.

It’s a really simple tip, but very helpful!
